Just came back! Phew..definitely need to cool down cos the weather is sooo humid outside; it's luxury to be able to sit on the air-con bus! Made a trip to the post office to return the NKF donation card that's due tmr. I've been having the donation cards since pri sch! Every other year, I will still be receiving it AND every other year, I'll be forking out my money, and writing down other people's names to submit the card. Wahaha. Charitable? Everytime I said I shall not take the card anymore, I just can't bring myself to say "No" to the woman from NKF who calls me. BUT this time, perhaps, I shld really say so already. Hmm...

While I was in the queue at the post office, I overheard this lady behind me telling her friend that there's a Metro Sale that ends on Sunday, and OG Sale that ends on Monday. Haha. Although I haven't really bought anything from these two places before, but it doesn't hurt to have a look at where there's a sale going on right. Plus, I have Metro credit voucher! Perhaps tmr, or Sun I can head down there!

I spent so much time online last night, and my MSN nick: Long Vacation. As though my exams were really over. Haha. What was I doing? Sending out emails with my attached CV which isn't impressive at all, and no cover letter (I don't know if there's a need for one), so that I can have a chance at finding a job in the holidays! Please please please reply....................

I promise to start studying after this post! (".) To try Java Programming. Haven't done it for so long, I need to tune myself to it so that I can write source codes tmr in the exam.

Wish me luck for last paper (in about 16 hours time)!!

Over before I know it.

Yours is Tickled Pink

You've got a sweet side that likes nothing better than to be tickled pink. That's why your charming vibe always rubs people just the right way. An affectionate soul like you is always thinking of others, and you find joy in being a generous and engaging part of your community. After all, you know it's much more rewarding to give than receive.

This doesn't mean that you won't stand up for yourself when necessary. But you think things through before acting, and you tread lightly when you can. And there's no better way to make a bigger or more lasting impression on people than by leaving them tickled pink too.

Your Emotional IQ is 121.

This number is the result of a formula based on how many questions you answered correctly on Tickle's Emotional IQ test. But your Emotional IQ score is much more than just a number: it's an indicator of success.

Research has shown that people with high emotional intelligence scores — not necessarily those with the highest IQ scores — tend to be the most valued and productive employees and have the longest and happiest romantic relationships.

So, where are you most emotionally smart? Your test results show that your strongest suit is perception — your ability to pick up on what others are feeling.

Because of this, you are unusually good at reading people's verbal and non-verbal cues. You're especially aware of the subtleties of people's actions, and can feel out the vibe of a situation better than many. That gives you and edge many wish they had. People with high perception skills like yours, however, tend to rely on them to the exclusion of others. As a result, they sometimes have underdeveloped abilities in other realms of critical emotional intelligence like managing emotions, empathy, and being expressive.

To truly excel in life and know how to relate to different people, you need to balance out the different kinds of emotional intelligence.

Research indicates that if people who are strong in perception can work to increase their overall emotional IQ score, they can prepare themselves to handle any interpersonal exchange with amazing skill — especially by learning to be empathetic and by being able to express what it is they are feeling or trying to say.

And the good news is that people who try to improve their emotional IQ have far greater success than people who try to improve their IQ.

(Take the test!)

I'm going to free myself from all that studying today!! Finally the worst is over, all that consecutive papers. It's so taxing on the brain--one that I hardly use for studying. It only comes in handy for about a week or so each semester! Haha. Anyway it still deserves a break! So I'm just going to watch TV and then have plenty of sleep. That's just what I need to do...

This song I heard on At the Dophin Bay which I quite like; finally found it and there it is playing in the background. Nice nice..even though I don't understand what she's singing. Anyway the title of song is Shiroi Yuki by Kokia. hmmm....

Things that I want to do in the upcoming holidays:
1. Get a job, earn some money, and hopefully learn useful stuff from the job
2. Go shopping, perhaps in JB as well? But I need someone who knows the way.
3. Go on a short holiday-just one or two days away will do.
4. Learn some html or webpage stuff. I can try to come up with own templates hopefully!

The second and third item on the list actually hinges on whether I can get a job in the first place. Hopefully I can. Maybe it's time to write my resume properly?

Well well, for now, I just want to be the slacker that I am....

Jus came back from my 3rd paper! It was the worst that I have taken so far--I couldn't do a 18 marks question!! Why? Cos the question requires application of MATRIX (finding determinant, solving a series of equations), and I dunno how!! Wonder how I managed to pass that module the last time, but keyword is "last time", maybe that's how. I've to pray even harder for this module. My target: B!!!

Yesterday's paper was just slightly better. There were so many people leaving the exam hall early; I wanted to as well, cos I finished all that I know and can do in the first hour. After that, I spend all the time figuring out what to do with that one question that's 10 marks. As good as not doing it in the end. Always have a feeling of being cheated by this one lecturer (he's an interesting lecturer, but...) cos there's so much to memorise for Biochemistry for his section, and yet he set a question purely on stereoisomers. Anyone who has taken Chemistry will know-so it's a giveaway! I should thank Ms Monica Wong for teaching me that last time. Haha.

What the "cheaterbug" lecturer said during many of his lectures...

1. "Scientists draw conclusions, sometimes funny conclusions."

So what happened to this group of scientists is that they want to see whether the no. of legs a frog has will affect its hopping ability. So they had a frog hop normally when one clap his hands, and they wrote 'frog is hopping perfectly normal'. Then they cut one leg away, and they see the frog hopping with a little difficulty, and they wrote that down. They cut another one away, more difficulty; another one away. Finally, the last leg was cut away, and the frog could not hop at all. They wrote down 'frog loses its hearing ability'.

2. Why are scientists paid less than that in the corporate world? (this one he put in his lecture notes!! For fun, of cos, he says...)

Postulate 1: Knowledge is Power.
Postulate 2: Time is Money.

By Law of Physics: Work done = Power x Time = Knowledge x Money
Or you can say, Money = Work done/Knowledge

Result: As knowledge increases, money decrease! (Reciprocal relationship)

3. Lesson to be learnt: "Sometimes things are not what they seem".

He and his wife met their frens (call them Mr. and Mrs. N) and they went out (both couples were newly wed). Both of them were riding on motorbikes with their wives. So his wife saw how tightly Mrs. N was hugging Mr. N and told him. When they were talking awhile after that, he told the couple, "You both are so loving, just see how tightly you hug him even when on the motorbike." Then Mrs N. replied, "Oh! I just wanted to make sure I was not going to fall down alone!"

So much for his sense of humour!

By the way, I told my fren and lab mate that I think this lecturer looks like one of the Teletubbies characters-the Indian one whose name is Dinky-Winky or sth. Then she replied, he looks like the Indian version of Mr. Bean. I agreed too. Wahaha...

Can't wait for Wednesday, which just happens to be tomorrow. Can have a good rest first then spend the rest of the two days studying for my last paper. First time I had so many papers consecutively, well it's all going to be over soon anyway! Perhaps I should go for a dip in the pool after tmr's paper. Nvm that I don't swim, jus being in the water is enough to make myself feel much more relaxed. Shall see...

Dinner time soon!... :p

Just had my first paper today--I don't know what to say of it. Just feeling alittle frustrated with myself. The questions were actually do-able, and yet I can't finish it!! The last question was actually a give-away, yet I didn't have time to do it!! Not to mention I left out parts here and there in the previous questions. ARGH. This is one paper that I had hoped to do well, want to do well, and the most promising of all. We'll leave the rest to luck..sigh...

Really supposed to be studying now, cos there's no time to lose. I have three consecutive papers starting on Monday! Yet again, I just want to slack, and have no motivation to do work. The motivation only lasted me yesterday (for today's paper..) But, it's only one week from now that I'll be free...It's all going to be over soon...

Look what I found on M1 website..

Procrastination! I think i'm really good at procrastinating. Haven't done anything much over the past two days or so. I just wake up so late, and then have lunch, watch some tv, then wanted to start work. But somehow or another, I just can't concentrate in the day. Even my grandma commented why I don't study in the day, but study late in the night. I really mean late in the night, like starting at 1 plus and ending at 3 plus. So effectively I study less than 4 hours every day- that's jus one sixth of the day! Can I ever finish my revision?..and not to mention trying the past year papers if I really want to try ace the papers.

Or rather, for most of my modules, I'm just aiming for a B+, which seems to be the highest that I can reach for all the semesters so far! Everyone knows why, cos all the A's go to the PRCs!! and some other scholars who are so damn good in Math and Stats! You can't beat them in terms of solving the question, nor can you hope that they are simply careless (I bet they're ten times more careful in their working than I am, especially if it involves integration).

I still dunno what to expect for the exams this time round.

Counting down, only 1 more day to first paper! After which, I have 3 consecutive papers..and I dread that!

Maybe I should be Queen of complaints too! bleah :p

Just wondering if anyone reads this blog?....

I MUST STUDY HARDER TONIGHT!!! (",)

I'm happy with the day, despite having studied so little so far. Even though I was behind schedule, I was still glad that I took time off to go for a swim. I just love the feeling of aqua!! Just stayed in the pool, and swam 20 laps (to and fro counted as 1 lap)! A revitalising dip in the pool, I would say.

Seriously, should go to the pool more often..there are more and more gals wearing bikinis at the pool. I also can't help but have a look at them! Today there was one-- in WHITE bikini!! Haha. Think there were many more in the afternoon, when some of them go to the poolside to have a tan. Maybe another day in this week I will go see.

On an even more serious note, I'm worried that I might not have a job in the holidays. So, I sent out two emails today to enquire about possibility of an internship. That's really the problem with Science Fac- they don't offer internship. It's not really necessary, in my opinion actually. But it's still good experience and it will look good on my resume next time. So it was Department of Statistics, and Manpower sth on my list (basically I just searched on Yahoo! for jobs related to statistics)..Haha.

This was the reply from the former:

Dear Miss Tay,

Thank you for your interest in our Department.

We regret to inform that we are unable to offer an internship.

Ohhh...so that's one opportunity less. Still got the other, and hopefully it will be a positive reply. Things not looking very good though. I must think of a back-up plan-to find some other job. That's not easy too! I will try..perhaps got to make a trip down to International Plaza?

Another piece of good news! The shows for Lord of the Dance has been extended till 8th May. Most likely, I will get to go watch!! Dear says he will watch with me (if no one else wants to go watch with me). Thank you, Dear! Hopefully I can get the tix soon! :p

Back to studying now, but perhaps take a little rest first. Feeling a little sleepy now after the swim. My resolution for the night: NOT to come online!..and finish up what I had initially planned to do for today. Lucky there isn't anything much for me to watch on tv tonight!

My best companion in studying: a tub of SunMaid Raisins!! Helps keep me awake too..

Again, some negative emotions inside me...feeling a little down :(

It's early in the morning, and I have no motivation to study, ever since I came back from tuition at 9 plus. I just lay on the bed, switching between channels on the tv, and reluctant to touch my set of notes. Few more days to go, certainly hope will make better progress tmr!!

The reading week is certainly a time to think through certain stuff, partly cos I'm so free all of a sudden. No hassle of setting the alarm clock, and waking up to rush for lessons, or come home tired from a long day at school. Just a few good days at home, in my room, pondering what do I want to do with my life, studies etc? Where am I heading from here?...

Actually some of these negative feelings are triggered by this incident. I just have this little feeling of being cheated (or I wonder if that's the word to use). Sometime last week, when she quarrelled with her bf, and was crying when she saw me before lessons, I was so worried about her. When lessons ended and we left, I msg her and she told me she was on her way home, to cry and rest after a whole sleepless night. Throughout the rest of the day, I was still worried about her. But, just yesterday, I found out she didn't go home. In fact, after we parted, she was back at her bf's hall, staying over the night as usual for the entire week. So things were ok between them already. So I worried for nothing, for quite some time. If only she can just send a msg to say sth. Just a msg. I was so concerned for a good fren, but that doesn't give her the right to take it for granted and cause me to be so worried isn't it. Of cos I was glad that things were ok for them anyway. Seriously, close frens are not meant to see each other almost every other day. Some things will change.

It will be a sunny day tmr!!! :p

I realised how powerful words may be, at times. You read a blog, and perhaps you decide that the person is having such a blessed life, or such a miserable time. But that really depends on how the author wants to paint a picture of his/her life; however rosy the picture is, or however bleak the future may seem, it all depends on the author.

That's just a afternote. I'm actually still quite ok. Life goes on as usual, and tmr will be a sunny day!!! Hopefully I can gather enough determination to beat the laziness and get out of the house to go for a swim. I want to get some Vitamin D, I don't like whitening!

Count down...
3 more days to first paper..and 10 more days to freedom!

Corrinne May's songs are just so soothing, and slow, just the way I like it..meaningful lyrics as well..
(Anyway think this one was part of a Taiwanese show before)

Corrinne May - Journey

It's a long long journey
Till I know where I'm supposed to be
It's a long long journey
And I don't know if I can believe
When shadows fall and block my eyes
I am lost and know that I must hide
It's a long long journey
Till I find my way home to you
Many days I've spent
Drifting on through empty shores
Wondering what's my purpose
Wondering how to make me strong
I know I will falter
I know I will cry
I know you'll be standing by my side
It's a long long journey
And I need to be close to you
Sometimes it feels no one understands
I don't even know why I do the things I do
When pride builds me up till I can't see my soul
Will you break down these walls and pull me through
Cause it's a long long journey
Till I feel that I am worth the price
You paid for me on Calvary
Beneath those stormy skies
When Satan mocks and friends turn to foes
It feels like everything is out to make me lose control
Cause it's a long long journey
Till I find my way home to you
To you

Corrinne May - Fly Away

"When will you be home?" she asks
as we watch the planes take off
We both know we have no clear answer
to where my dreams may lead
She's watched me as i crawled and stumbled
As a child, she was my world
And now to let me go, I know she bleeds
and yet she says to me
You can fly so high
Keep your gaze upon the sky
I'll be prayin every step along the way
Even though it breaks my heart
to know we'll be so far apart
I love you too much to make you stay
Baby fly away
Autumn leaves fell into spring time and
SIlver-painted hair
Daddy called one evening saying
"We need you. Please come back"
When I saw her laying in her bed
Fragile as a child
Pale just like an angel taking flight
I held her as I cried
You can fly so high
Keep your gaze upon the sky
I'll be prayin every step along the way
Even though it breaks my heart
to know we'll be so far apart
I love you too much to make you stay
Baby fly away ohh...
I love you too much to make you stay
Baby fly away

Pisces
20 FEBRUARY - 20 MARCH

Quadruplicity
Mutable
Day of the week
Tuesday
Birthstones
Pink Coral, Turquoise, Aquamarine
Colours
Purple, Grey, Blue
Flowers
Iris, Camellia, Jasmine, Lily
Metals
Tin
Essences
Incense, Wistaria
Animals
Elephant, Dolphin, Dog

General Features:
Water sign ruled by Jupiter and Neptune. Pisceans are subtle, patient, sweet and tolerant. However, they can also be touchy and treacherous (I'M NOT!). Their typical features are a complex character, a great fantasy and an extraordinary learning ability. They are irresolute and they are not keen in organizing, so that they prefer to be led by other people, both in private and in working life. Typical jobs are: football player, nurse (no way!), medium (sounds eerie..), mechanic and photographer. They have a strong religious feeling and artisitic sensibility. Being so reserved, it is not easy to know and understand them thoroughly. Friendship and true and longlasting love for Pisceans are extremely important.

Seducing Piscean Men:
(omitted! Haha...)

Seducing Piscean Women:
Piscean women are romantic, sweet and fragile. They have the gift to make a man feel he's the most important thing in the world. They like to be praised, fondled and they want you to listen to them, or else they suffer and become sad. The ideal man must be strong and "solid". TIP: Talk a lot to her!

The reading week formally starts today, and my first paper is exactly one week away. It's gonna be a busy and tiring week, as there's alot of cramming to do--need to get the entire semester's work into my head during this time. There's really quite limited space in my head, and that memory allocation is even lesser for academic stuff :/ It's been a long time since I actually memorised anything, it's really more like understanding the concept and applying it now. I hope I understand thou...

I went to library today to borrow a really thick textbook to read up on matrics in regression today! (W-O-W!!) Haha. But most of the time when I was in the library, I was just stoning, resting or jus listening to the music on the mp3 player (yes, i figured out how to download songs into it already, at last..) and at the same time scribbling down the lyrics on my rough paper. Today's song lyrics (from her earlier album, but always an all-time favourite of mine) :

(if only I know how to play music in this site, I'd have played the song...that shall be one of the things i will do after the exams, have a new look for the blog, add tag board, add music, add pics! The personality quiz at the side seems quite true for me, prob keep it there..)

Back to Exams...

It's gonna be two weeks of no-contact with Dear starting on Saturday. Intensive studying. I'm gonna miss him. The consolation: the holidays (even though May is the only time he's really free, before he starts his attachment). Still I look forward to that time. We shall all do well in our exams!!! Shall set up my target board for this semester soon, and see if I can do honours after 3rd year, but that will mean I have to settle for a 2nd lower class honours degree cos I doubt I'll ever make it to 2nd upper. Unless I can get CAP 5.0 every sem until I graduate!! Hmmm..

Anyway, till then...

I think I really have no concept of time or sense of urgency. Can you imagine that my exams are just slightly more than one week away and yet, I haven't started studying! To make it worse, I spent the entire afternoon playing Minesweeper!! On hindsight, I wonder how I did that! Feel a little guilty, and stressed-not because of work, but cos I'm not studying. Perhaps that's the best consolation I can offer anyone, and that's what I always tell my frens. "It's ok, I haven't studied", so they can have some kind of false security. BUT can someone gimme a wake up call?! Haha. To tell me that's it's really time to start, cos I don't really have that much time...

My exam timetable:
23 Apr ST3234
25 Apr LSM1101 (Most dreaded Biochem module!)
26 Apr ST3131 (Until now, I still can't do any questions that involve matrices, hmm...)
27 Apr ST3239
30 Apr IT1002 (I just hope I'm in the right frame of mind to write the program in exam!)

Liberation....

Probably won't get to watch Lord of the Dance on 1st May :(

Probably be updating the blog more often than normal...cos I'm too free and bored, even when I start studying I guess.

Probably I really need a wake-up call, and one everyday too..so I won't sleep so much and forego time to study instead!

Probably...

I must repeat again...I'm so IN LOVE with Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance after catching the show on Arts Central just now!! It's simply so impressive, and mesmerizing!! Anyone who wants to watch pls pls msg me, let's go watch together at Kallang Theatre!!

Feel so much better today, after a whole day of recuperation. I'm impressed with what I've done the entire day-- Absolutely nothing! But I tidied and cleaned up my room, just like how I tidied up my bad feelings. It's really a good way to make oneself feel better. Just taking a short break now before fighting it out with JAVA again! Conquer it, I will, I shall, I must...

I shall redeem my SunPerk points tomorrow, else they will expire.

I'm speechless, tired, and demoralized. That's what writing a Java programme can do to me! I really don't have that brain for programming. Trying to write a Graphical User Interface (GUI) program, and yet I jus can't make a certain portion of it work. Just that little final portion of making the points inside the circle change colour, and it has taken up a whole lot of my time!! Still stuck...Sian..

It's a lousy Saturday! DAMN Java...the worst is not over!

My msn nick for the night: "What is a woman's greatest weakness? ---Her loneliness". Most women want accompaniment in almost anything they do. Which explains why women always visit the ladies in pairs, at least.

:(

A rather exciting day in the middle of the week. Not really exciting, in that sense, but just that it's more eventful than any other day...in the first place, I end lessons at 1pm today, think that's the earliest in this entire semester!

Firstly, project report has finally been finished and submitted. Next up to prepare is just the presentation which is one week away. Nothing too much to worry perhaps. So, after having lunch in Science canteen, I made my way to the salon to have a haircut (the last one I had was jus before chinese new year!) The hairstylist whom I asked for initially was not working today, and the ger recommended another guy instead, so I jus said "ok".

First thing the hairstylist said to me, "Do you smile?" Haha...he kept telling me that I look very fierce and serious when I don't smile. And he thinks that I was in a bad mood today. Diaoz. Am I supposed to be so friendly that I keep smiling at him while he's pulling and cutting my hair?! Which brings me to the point: it never hurts to flirt a little, especially with ur male hairstylist (I read this from some magazine before) since it's good to build some good relationship with him so he know what you want to do with ur hair, and even give you some discounts! BUT I can't do it. He's not the first hairstylist to tell me I look serious and fierce. Haha. Then again, if I can flirt, then I am not "me".

How about this..some results from a test to see if you're a great flirter!

You scored 23 percent in this test!
wan ting, to become a successful flirter, you have to get a bit more self-confidence and develop more empathy. You're approach is too clumsy not very charming. It's not too surprising that your moves will be blocked. You lack the right feelings when it comes to flirting. So please listen to your heart and follow your feelings. You have to relax a bit and then your "message" will be much easier received by your heartthrob. Don't put yourself under too much pressure and try to find out what the other person likes, what his interests are, what turns him on. Using this first common points, it'll be much easier for you to get closer to him.

Once again, it's proven! Haha..

Someone just told me I am a nice and good girl. And I replied, "Being nice and good means ordinary, and boring..." I really think so. One more thing, nice people are forget-able, but bad people get remembered. Which would you choose to be? Perhaps if you're a guy, you'll choose the latter, so that some lady out there will fall for you! Haha.

Another interesting conversation I overheard on the bus, two ladies on the bus sitting behind me. I believe both of them are in their mid or late twenties, one of whom is pregnant. They were discussing about the "inconveniences" of being pregnant...so one was saying, she can't cut her toe nails, because of her tummy blocking her. So what she does is to ask her husband to do it! Haha. Or if ur husband is not willing to do it for you, but willing to spend some money, go for a pedicure, just like one of their friends. Blah blah blah...then they were discussing who's having a baby now, who's going to have a baby, like literally going through their entire list of friends to see who's pregnant (as though they all get pregnant at about the same time.) Haha. I find that very amusing! I imagine, perhaps one day, I will start going through my list of friends too?

Interesting....

Felt that the weekend was pretty short actually, cos most part of it was spent on the project. Thanks to those who did the survey! But gladly, the project is gonna be due soon. So I won't have to spend time editing and editing the report over and over again, after every meeting we have. The last part would just be the presentation. Jus hope my voice won't be shaking! Haha. I get stage fright VERY easily. Even last time in band, I would get scared sometimes. Speaking of which, I miss band, and I miss playing the clarinet...

Anyway, I spent Sat morning at project discussion, then came home to edit my part before Dear came over to my place. Our plan for that day was to stay at home, and watch DVD, Miss Singapore Universe, and also prepare for his presentation on Monday. Haha. We watched "White Chicks" together with my brother, though it's my 2nd time watching the show, I still find it very funny. Seriously, many guys have much nicer legs than girls!!

Contestant No. 5 Yvonne Lim, from senior class managed to get into final 5 in the competition, and eventually came up 4th. Really quite an achievement already isn't it? Dear said he thinks her reply for Q&A was the best amongst all 5, but still she didn't win. Perhaps cos she stumbled over her answer quite a bit. Dear said the greatest weakness of a woman is her indecisiveness. I think he was referring to me actually. Well, he stayed on awhile longer after that to catch some soccer action.

Quite worried last night, cos my grandma was sick. While I was talking to Dear in my room, I heard her breathing very heavily next door. When I went to check on her, she was really trembling, and she can't speak properly. Immediately, I just went to wake my parents up. Then it was quite a fluster getting extra blanket for her, wanted to go get ice cubes but there was NONE in the freezer! Must have been my brother who didn't bother to fill up the tray after he removed the ice cubes. So all we could do is to use the coolest tap water. I even took out the dry ice pack from Royce chocolates so she might be able to use it. After about an hour or so, she was finally better after vomitting out some food she had taken earlier. Lucky she's better now, and still resting alot.

Few more weeks to exam, quickly come quickly go. I just want to finish sch...Then again, sch is not such a boring place, not so if there are some people who do interesting things in lectures! Enter the LT (forward to the 57th min and wait, but i've got a sneaky feeling it may not work)!! Wahaha..like watching some show hor? I just kept laughing- to think that the Math lecturer actually helped him out too! I admire the guy for the courage, but at the same time, I can feel the embarrassment for the ger. If it were more romantic like the scene in My Sassy Girl in which the ger was playing the piano, and the guy went down to offer her a rose, that would have been even more cool! Haha. No hope of it happening in real life, thou (of cos!)

Anyway I learnt a new word yesterday: "sabbatical". (meaning from dictionary.com)
sab·bat·i·cal
  1. Relating to a sabbatical year.
  2. Sabbatical also Sabbatic Relating or appropriate to the Sabbath as the day of rest.

Oh yeah, it doesn't really explain anything. But Dear said Sabbath mean Sunday. Well well...

Another week ahead, hope it's good! Back to tutorials...
